1855 - the begınnıng

The story of Petek 1855 began in Köprülü (present-day Veles), a historic town in the Balkans that was then part of the Ottoman Empire. There, master saddler and leather craftsman Ismail Efendi established a small workshop dedicated to handmade leather goods. Working along the banks of the Vardar River, he produced harnesses, riding equipment and everyday leather articles. What began as a modest family workshop would become the foundation of a leather-making tradition carried forward through generations for more than 170 years.

Late 1800s - Tradition Meets Innovation

As the family craft developed, Ismail Efendi’s son Hüseyin Efendi soughtto expand his knowledge beyond his hometown.Travelling to Austria, one of the leading centres of leather craftsmanship at the time, he studied advanced techniques and production methods. Upon returning home, he introduced new approaches while preserving the values inherited from his father. This balance between craftsmanship and innovation became a defining principle that would continue to guide the family for generations.

1946–954 - A New Chapter Begins

The late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries brought significant challenges to the Balkans. Political instability, economic hardship and social upheaval affected countless families, including the Saraç family. Yet despite these difficulties, the family remained committed to their craft and continued to preserve their expertise in leatherworking.

1946 - Hamdi HUseyin Ismailov

The third generation was represented by Hamdi Hüseyin Ismailov, who formally earned his master craftsman's certification in 1y4S.Deeply inspired by the ideals of modern Türkiye and by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, Hamdi Bey looked toward a future beyond the borders of his birthplace.

1954 - A New Home in Istanbul

In 1954, the family relocated to Istanbul, carrying with them generations of leatherworking knowledge. The move marked a turning point in the family's history, opening new opportunities while preserving the values and skills that had been passed down for nearly a century. Leaving behind familiar surroundings, the family began again in a new city. Their resilience and commitment to craftsmanship laid the foundation for the future growth of the business.

The move markednot only a geographical transition, but the beginning of a new chapter. Like many immigrant families of the era, they arrived with limited resources and faced considerable challenges while building a new life. Through resilience, discipline and determination, they gradually established themselves once again. Those early years became the foundation of a family culture centred on hard work, entrepreneurship and an unwavering commitment to craftsmanship.
